European Robin

European Robin.
The Robin owes its popularity (the national bird of Britain!) to its trustful behavior towards people. It is abundant throughout Europe.
It has its breeding area in gardens and parks, but it is also a typical forest bird.
The Robin doesn't migrate so the bird can be seen all through the year.
In winter it is also a frequent guest on feeding tables. The robin is considered to be a gardener's friend for it is unafraid of people and drawn to human activities involving the digging of soil in the garden. The bird then preys on the exposed worms and insects.

The robin’s red breast is part of what is appealling to us, providing a welcome flash of colour on a winter’s day.
But its purpose is for a more serious role, with male robins using it to settle territorial disputes, especially during the breeding season.

The Robin is a good singer, the characteristic melancholic song, like a high violin, can be heard all through the year, and also the female sings.
It also sings at night, sometimes under street lights, and is for this reason sometimes mistaken for a nightingale.
