The Paper Wren
Paper wren nesting in a ball of wool yarn
by Benjamin Gartmann Sheboygan, Wisconsin USA
By Debra Cardosi, Wheeling, IL USA
Debra writes: "My husband hand-crafted the shadow box for my Mother-in-Law. I machine embroidered the Texas Bluebonnet flowers and combined them with the Firecrest perched on a real twig. She lives in Texas, the Firecrest there is known as the Kinglet. She could not believe the bird was made of paper!"
'Follow your dreams ! ' made by Frank Verkerk
By Tom Lourens from Zaandam (The Netherlands)
Tom Lourens from Zaandam ( Netherlands) made these tree birds, using the templates of the Hummingbird and Firecrest. At the top is the Bee Hummingbird (lifesize!), below it the Wallcreeper, and to the right is a Ruby-throated Hummingbird.
Firecrest, made by Magda Piotrowska-Kloc
This firecrest made by Magda Piotrowska-Kloc is beautifully made in thin paper, the background is kept simple in attractive colors. The firecrest is in the centre of the composition, the flowers give a charming accent, in colours which are well balanced with the bird itself.
Talented 10 year old Neela Barberousse created the sculpture "Paradise of Birds" using several birds.
Here is what she wrote about her sculpture:
Birds are the only things in the world that have feathers. My fascination with them is the inspiration behind "Paradise of Birds."
